My Passions

Work Study

Sustainability Intern

For my work study, I work for the sustainability department as an intern. My passions include cooking and gardening among others. Thus, it is amazing doing work that I am passionate about because it is not work anymore. I start as an intern to help create cooking classes for students on campus. The cooking classes teach students cooking skills and the importance of using sustainable ingredients while cooking. One of my mission is to reach out to many people as possible, and cooking is the best way to do it. Overtime, my duties expand to include helping in the campus garden and contributing to the waste management project and research. I love my work, and I am proud to have helped make the campus greener with the short four years I am on campus.

Combining Music and religion

University Singer and St. Patrick Choir

As a young boy, I grow up singing in the church choir. It started when my grandma bringing me to church everyday to sing with the elderly choir. From then, I fell in love with singing. Music and Catholicism have always been there for me whenever I am down. Singing is a way for me to show my emotions and express creativity. Forwarding to college, I join St. Patrick’s student choir and volunteer my time every week to impact others’ experience at St. Patrick church. At the end of freshman year, I auditioned for University Singer, thinking I would never get accepted. The moment I found that I got accepted into the most prestigious choir at school was a most magical moment in my life. Honestly, singing in University Singer and at St. Patrick was the best decision I make for my college experience.

Culture

Kakehashi Scholar 2019

I was selected to participate in the Kakehashi Program, an initiative between the United States and Japanese governments to build a lasting connection. As a participant, I was immerse into the Japanese culture and gain insight on the Japanese government. Participating in this exchange program opened my eyes to a different culture than what I experience at home as a Vietnamese American. The Kakehashi Program allow me to stay with a host family. I gained so much knowledge from my host mom and brother about how Japaneses viewed families, social norms, and laws.
