About Me
I’m Hieu. A neuroscience major at W&L.
My Story
Hello, my name is Hieu Nguyen. I am a student at Washington and Lee University. I am working toward a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. Starting at a young age, I always have a penchant for the mysteries of the brain. The enigma of the brain and its functions in making who I am sparks my curiosity and fuels my determination to understand its secrecy. Currently, I work in a neuroscience lab under the guidance of Dr. Watson at W&L. My goal is to apply the knowledge that I have learned to improve my communities. In order to achieve this goal, I will become a physician.

My Identity
I am a Vietnamese Catholic American. What does this sentence mean? ‘Vietnamese Catholic’ tells people about my origin. I was born in Vietnam, grew up in a Catholic family, and came to America when I was eight. As a Vietnamese, I value family and education. I care for my family because they make lots of sacrifices for my well-being. As a Catholic, I love everyone, especially my enemies, the poor, and the unwanted. I believe that small acts of kindness can make a great impact. I love to see people smile. Lastly, American means I will obey the laws and fulfill duties of an American citizen by promoting the health and education in my community. This is who I am.
